Interview Booth – TechMuseum in San Jose

The TechMuseum was designing new spaces on the museum floor to support co-working, innovation, and design activities. These spaces will be defined by mobile furniture designed specifically for visitors to brainstorm and share ideas, share prototypes and demonstrate technologies, and interview each other.

The project bellow is the two-person “interview booths” that provide semi-private and safe spaces for conversation. The seats fit together in multiple configurations (tete-a-tete, side-by-side, and across from each other). The configuration provides a low “wall” or physical barrier between users and promotes easy conversation (position and proximity for seeing each other, hearing each other). The seat is comfortable but also allows users to lean towards each other to listen closely + lean towards a mobile iPad kiosk to view slides and videos. It encourage reflective behaviors (focus on conversation + media on iPad) and dissuade rowdy play behaviors, such as running and jumping and spinning. The staff from the TechMuseum can re-configure and movea these booths several times per week for events. The furniture included mobile rotating white board tables and mobile tables

Production of the furniture is underway. Estimated time for installation May 2015.
